Week of April 10th-14th
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great spring break. I am excited to see all the kiddos tomorrow and hear about their spring break. I’m looking forward to all the soil samples and investigating them for our soil unit, if you could label where the soil sample was collected even if it was in your yard! In Science, we will continue to learn about living and non-living things and what they need. This week we will begin to discuss what plants need. In math, we will continue to count on from a given number, addition and subtraction to 15 and compare 2D and 3D shapes. We will be learning all about farm animals and what farmers do in preparation for our field trip to the art barn this Friday! We will be writing about informational text about cows.
Art Barn Reminders:
On Friday, April 14th, we will be going to the art barn on our field trip. Please dress your child in the grey "Kind is the New Cool" t-shirt or any other Tritt shirt for the field trip and tennis shoes! I recommend putting sunscreen on your child; we will be outside all day. If your child is bringing his/her lunch from home, then pack it in a disposable bag, labeled with your child's name, with everything inside disposable as well. That means EVERYTHING can be thrown away at the end of lunch.
Don’t forget to pack a snack everyday!
Check your child’s red folder for a special save the date!!! You don’t want to miss out!

Parents,
It was great to see each and every one of you this week! I am excited about the progress the students have made this nine weeks and am eager to see how much they continue to grow as learners.
This week, we will focus on the letters “Pp” and “Qq”. We will learn the strokes to write these letters and the letter sounds. We will collaborate to think of words that begin with “Pp” and “Qq”. We will work independently on identifying words that have the same beginning sounds and segment words into syllables.
In writer’s workshop, we will brainstorm adjectives that describe pumpkins. We will become pumpkin experts by investigating pumpkins. We will carve a pumpkin and write the steps to carving a pumpkin. We will focus on our finger spacing and punctuation.
In math, we will learn different ways to make numbers 1-5. In math centers, we will break apart teen numbers, count objects 1-20 and identify which is less.
In science, we will describe changes from day to night. We will discuss sunset and sunrise.
On Tuesday, we will visit the ILC! Don’t forget your books!
On Thursday, we will have an author’s visit. We will have Diane Shore, author of Bus-a-saurus Bop, visiting Tritt to share her book.
**Friday is the Tiger Dash! We will be participating in the Dash from 11:30-12:15. Please come cheer on “Gillespie’s Gems” as we complete the obstacle course for the conclusion of our PTA fundraiser! Thanks for all the support! **

Week of September 12th
Hi Parents,
We had a wonderful but busy week. Next week, we will focus on the letters "Hh" and "Ii". We will learn to write these letters using the correct strokes as well as their sounds. I am going to send home a stroke sheet to help when writing letters at home.
In Math workshop, we will learn to write the numbers 9 and 10 the correct way. For math centers, students will practice recognizing numbers to 20. For the kiddos who are ready we will go all the way to 30. Please continue practicing counting 1 to 50 at home.
In Science we learned about Ocean habitats, we discussed animals that live in the ocean and other things that we see in the ocean. This week we will learn the habitats desert, woodlands, grasslands and rain forest. We will begin creating animals that live in those habitats the week of September 19th. I will need 5 parent volunteers to come and help with this STEM activity. I will need these volunteers on Wednesday, September 21st from 9:30-11:00. Please email me if you can help.
Homework journals will be going home on Monday. Please use the journal pages to complete the homework. Please make sure that you are only doing one activity a night. If they want to do more encourage them to add details. In their journals I wrote notes to them, please allow your child to read those notes and respond.
We want students to set up a nightly homework routine. I also pasted an instruction sheet in the front of the homework journal and pasted the homework sheet on one page of the journal. I figured it would make it easier to keep up with everything!
Behavior update: Starting Monday I will be giving students 3 reminders to correct behavior after 3 times, I will be sending home a note. Please come up with an appropriate consequence for your child when a note is sent home. (no electronics, go to bed earlier, no toys, etc.) Sending a note home only helps improve the student’s behavior if there is a direct consequence at home. Thank you for supporting me at home!
We will have guidance and talent development this week!
Reminders:
-Please label all snacks with your child’s name.
-Check the red communication folder daily
- When sending in money, please put your child’s name, grade, teach and what the money is for on the envelope or Ziploc.

What is happening in Kindergarten......
Week of September 5th
Hey Parents,
We had a great week in Kindergarten! I am so impressed with our class Animal Alphabet. Our kiddos were STEM STARS! Don’t forget we do not have school on Monday, enjoy the long weekend.
Next week, we will learn about the letter “Gg” and review all the letters and sounds we have learned so far. I sent home a list of sight words; I broke them down into sets of 25. If you will help your child learn the orange words, we need to know all orange words by October 5Th! We will continue to learn sight words outside of the orange words when we see them in a book or elsewhere.
In math we will finish learning about 7 and begin to learn how to write the number 8 and different ways to show 8. I will be assessing the students on the 5 2-D shapes we have learned. The five shapes are hexagon, rectangle, square, triangle and circle. The kiddos are shape experts!
We will be exploring and researching animal habitats over the next few weeks. We will conduct research on Ocean habitats in the ILC on Tuesday. Our next STEM challenge will be based on animal habitats.
Homework journals will come home on Tuesday. Directions for homework are on the print out that will come home in their red communication folder. They are to complete homework assignments in their homework journals. Please remember to check these folders nightly. I try to make sure if the students do not finish their morning work that they take it home it is good extra practice! (It is not homework)
I hope everyone has a safe long weekend!
Love,
Ms. Gillespie
Donut Day is Thursday. Don't forget your dollar if you want a Krispy Kreme!!!
We are going to the ILC on Tuesday! Don’t forget your books!

Week of August 29th
Hey Parents,
I apologize for the lengthy post! We are trying to be GREEN in our classroom. To save paper I put a lot of IMPORTANT information in this post. READ EVERYTHING! It was a great TEAM UP week here at Tritt! We had lots of fun. I am excited to announce that we will begin guided reading groups this week! I will work with guided reading groups during our daily five rotations. In addition, I will be sending home a list of sight words for you to begin practicing at home with your child. Remember a tricky part about sight words is that they are high frequency words you just have to know. You cannot always sound them out! (Example, sound out “was” and then say it, it can be tricky)
In Math we will learn to write the numbers 4, 5 and 6. We will practice counting one-on-one correspondence to 10. We are also working on correctly writing our numbers. I will introduce circles and squares this week. We are using math language to compare and analyze similarities and differences between shapes.
In Language Arts we will learn to write the letters "Ee" and "Ff" and the sounds they make. We will begin to work on main idea and details of a story to help with comprehension. We will also begin working with rhyming words.
On Friday, we began collaborating and communicating as a class for our STEM showcase on Wednesday, August 31st. Students were given their letters today! They had to identify the letter and sound. We also all chose our animals! This was an exciting process. The students imagined and planned their animal transformations today! We will continue to collaborate Monday and Tuesday as we discover our animal’s coverings and how they move. On Wednesday, we will transform our letters into animals. We are eager for the 30+ visitors to Tritt to see STEM in action in our classroom. We are having fun while integrating science and language arts standards. We cannot wait to share our animal alphabet with our parents! (Make sure to ask your child about what letter they have and what animal they chose! There are some good ones. (Nurse shark, Rat, Wasp, Thrasher)
For writer’s workshop we will continue our ALL ABOUT ME BAGS! We are almost finished. We are drawing our friends and labeling their names. We are drawing the items they shared with us and labeling the pictures using the sounds we hear. Each day we are getting better and better. Ms. Gillespie and Mrs. Tracy are IMPRESSED with their progress!!
UPDATES AND REMINDERS;
-PLEASE LABEL ALL SNACKS WITH NAMES!
-WE WILL BEGIN OUR CLASSROOM JOBS ON MONDAY! WE WILL KEEP OUR JOB FOR THE ENTIRE WEEK. WE ARE A TEAM!
- REST MATS- I SENT THEM HOME ON FRIDAY TO BE WASHED AND RETURNED MONDAY! PLEASE LEAVE ANY ADDITIONAL ITEMS PILLOWS, STUFFED ANIMALS AT HOME.
- BE LOOKING OUT FOR INFORMATION ABOUT OUR KICKBALL GAME AGAINST MT. BETHEL TO RAISE MONEY TO FIGHT CHILDHOOD CANCER! WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE OUR FAMILIES CHEERING ON OUR STAFF!

ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES:
- Mrs. Bates is asking we bring our own headphones to the ILC to prevent any unwanted critters in our hair. Your child only will use their headphones. We ask that the ear buds be sized for children so they do not have trouble staying in their ears.
- Donation: If you would like to donate any STEP INTO READING books (walmart) to our classroom we would greatly appreciate it! Our kiddos enjoy these books! We are using our book boxes everyday and would love to have a variety of reading materials. The step into reading books will be placed in a class library that all students will visit to select books for their individual book box.

This week in Kindergarten....
Hi Parents,
YAY for our first updated blog post, I will be posting each week by Sunday! We had another great week in Kindergarten. It was great to see everyone at Open House. Next week, we will focus on writing the letters Aa and Bb correctly, we did "A" this week. When working with your child at home remember, all letters start from the top or dotted line! We will also be focusing on the sounds that these letters make.
In Math, we will learn to write the numbers 2 and 3. On Monday, I will be introducing the hexagon. We will begin breaking into Math Groups on Tuesday and Thursday. In the math groups students will be reviewing skills and learning new skills.
We are continuing to build our reading stamina! We will try to beat 3 minutes on Monday! If your child brought their library book home take some time to let them share it with you or their siblings! We are learning and practicing the 3 ways to read a book. You can read the pictures, read the words or retell the story.
We will be very busy next week. We will have Mrs. Grindstaff visiting our classroom on Tuesday. On Wednesday, we will have our first talent development with Mrs. Walker. I know the kiddos will enjoy these lessons!
P.S. Ask your child what indivisible means! You might get a good laugh.
Enjoy your weekend,
Ms. Gillespie
***If your child will attend a FAST class please send in any transportation changes (where they are going after FAST) with dates included***
**Please return the Performing Arts forms sent home earlier this week. Cobb County does ask for a donation, but it is optional. Even if you elect not to donate, I still need you to sign permission for your child to participate.**
